So these people in this village take their phones out at night, and play YouTube clips of mole crickets chirping and it lures real live mole crickets out so that they then catch and sell them locally.

Villagers in Nakhon Ratchasima have learnt to make money from YouTube without posting video clips. Instead, they are using certain clips to draw out a type of edible insect for them to catch to sell. Residents of Ban Muean Tee in Tambon Don Chomphu in Nakhon Ratchasima’s Non Sung district, said they have been earning 450 baht (S$18.80) to 500 baht a night from the use of YouTube clips to attract mole crickets.
