Over 1,400 4th graders attended the expo, presented by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.

Yeah, baby!

I love university entomology departments, and Texas A&M is no exception. In fact, click here to hear my interview with Dr. Jeffery Tomberlin, Associate professor at Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, who are the folks that actually put on the expo. He’s also a Black Soldier Fly expert and if you listen to the narration of the video embedded below, you’ll hear talk of using insects in forensic entomology and “decomposers”…this is clearly Jeff’s stamp! Shout out to Dr. Jeffery Tomberlin, and the whole Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service!

“This event was presented by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in collaboration with these school districts and volunteer organizations,” said Wizzie Brown, AgriLife Extension entomologist, Travis County. “We had more than 20 stations with fun and educational activities related to insects and entomology.”

This is the right idea, we need to get more kids exposed to the benefits of bugs to people and planet. Plant the seeds of curiosity, and hope for the future in fertile young minds.
