Polyxena by Alex Nizovsky

There’s this artist with a showing in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sausalito to be exact. If you are in the Bay Area, I highly recommend you check it out…

This lifelong interest in biology — especially insects — is embodied in his solo show, “Bug Sur,” now on display through March 1 at the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art in Novato. Not wanting to create just “scientific illustrations” of bugs, the colorful artwork weaves in archetypes and symbols from different cultures like military seals and political figures. Some of his works include an Atlas beetle from Thailand combined with a ceremonial elephant image, and a long-armed beetle with electron tubes of musical amplifiers.
